Living in one of the big cities in Florida, I never saw anything quite like this (excepting the occasional family of ducks). This morning on my way to work, I was held up briefly as I waited for this line of fine feathered fellows to cross the road:
What was really killing me was their apparent fear of the yellow line. They would stop, investigate, and then run over it quickly. I was cracking up waiting for them to go by! As I turned up at the corner, there was another line of 15 or so crossing in front of the building in the background. For some reason, they love hanging out in the mall parking lot (to the immediate right in this photo).
Who knew geese had such manners when crossing the road??
Building an Indigo Lantern – The Patch

One of the greatest challenges I’ve encountered in this project, aside from figuring out what sort of costume to actually wear since I am not built to dress like Indigo-1, has been the lantern patch. On a recent trip to Atlanta, I asked at a large comic shop if they had any of the Lantern Corps patches in stock besides the ones you see everywhere. It was then that I learned that the company who made them released them in 2002 and no more have been released since then. No wonder I couldn’t find what I was looking for!
So, being the crafty person that I am, I decided to try my hand at making my own patch. Everything else is my own interpretation, so why not?
Here is a photo of my first attempt:
Not too shabby, all things considered, but for obvious reasons, I was less than pleased.
This evening I regrouped, after a bit of preparation, and made some major changes to my process. The result was this:

What does BotCon have to do with me?!?

It would appear that since the whole BotCon debacle surrounding Tom Croom and Joey Snackpants has exploded on the internetz, this site has seen a spike in activity (prompted by this article on YouBentMyWookie.com). And when you don’t have many readers to begin with, the change is noticeable!
What I don’t understand is… why? Why am I suddenly more interesting? Do you really think I have anything to say on the subject when I have never even watched any of the Transformers cartoons?!? Come on now. Let’s think about this.
Obviously no one has found anything worthwhile here because there have been no comments from people I don’t know. But you should see my Indigo Lantern staff now that I’ve painted it! Definitely come back to see the update when I post it this week. It’s pretty awesome.

Building an Indigo Lantern

Admittedly, I’m not all that familiar with the concepts behind the Green Lantern Corps. Last year it was suggested that a group of us get together and do a Lantern Corps group at Dragon*Con 2010. Knowing nothing about it, I said yes!
Admittedly I have begun reading the back story on the Green Lantern, though I’m not all the way through the corps yet, but decided that I wanted to be an Indigo Lantern. Partly because no one else picked it, and partly because compassion is often my greatest weakness.
So my costume is sewn (my very first time following a pattern, thankyouverymuch) and then the challenge started…
how the heck do you build an Indigo Lantern staff?!?
It took me a little while, and a bit of collaboration, to figure out the concept and what would (hopefully) be the best way to build it. So I began with a giant Styrofoam ball and a bamboo pole.
Earlier this week I learned how to use the Dremel and only broke 3 rotary blades as I hollowed out my Styrofoam and shaped the top of my staff. After I attached it to the bamboo pole with glue (though I apparently did NOT use enough glue), I covered the entire surface with Paper Clay because it dries light and would give me something to spray paint that won’t melt.
This is where I’m at so far, waiting for the Paper Clay to dry so I can paint:
