Building an Indigo Lantern
Jul 8th
Admittedly, I’m not all that familiar with the concepts behind the Green Lantern Corps. Last year it was suggested that a group of us get together and do a Lantern Corps group at Dragon*Con 2010. Knowing nothing about it, I said yes!
Admittedly I have begun reading the back story on the Green Lantern, though I’m not all the way through the corps yet, but decided that I wanted to be an Indigo Lantern. Partly because no one else picked it, and partly because compassion is often my greatest weakness.
So my costume is sewn (my very first time following a pattern, thankyouverymuch) and then the challenge started…
how the heck do you build an Indigo Lantern staff?!?
It took me a little while, and a bit of collaboration, to figure out the concept and what would (hopefully) be the best way to build it. So I began with a giant Styrofoam ball and a bamboo pole.
Earlier this week I learned how to use the Dremel and only broke 3 rotary blades as I hollowed out my Styrofoam and shaped the top of my staff. After I attached it to the bamboo pole with glue (though I apparently did NOT use enough glue), I covered the entire surface with Paper Clay because it dries light and would give me something to spray paint that won’t melt.
This is where I’m at so far, waiting for the Paper Clay to dry so I can paint:

Pretty good, eh? Considering it’s my first prop creation ever?

What I’ve learned from Fable 2
May 17th
I know I’m a little behind the times, but lately I have been on a HUGE Fable 2 kick. Never played it before now, and I can’t seem to get enough of it. It’s like a sickness, really. Last night I was telling Snackpants about what I have learned from playing the game nonstop for the last few days, and here is a brief rundown of what comes to mind.
1. Bigamy is never a good idea, especially when you are dumb enough to house all of your spouses in the same small town (pocket dimensions not withstanding).
2. Even when they’re digital, it’s sad when your babies are taken away from you.
3. When buying rental properties, it’s important to raid them for any usable items before letting someone else live there.
4. Everyone should have a pet that never needs to be taken outside… or fed… or walked.
5. When using deadly weapons to pursue justice, why not add special devices that let you get paid when the bad guys die?!?
6. I do not want to have bright blue scars on my real face.
